Uttarakhand Flood Relief

The Himalayan Tsunami

This is a funds appeal from Association for India's Development for India's worst floods in the recent memories.

A flash floods has hit the Himalayan state of Uttarakhand where the river Ganges is well above the dangerous mark. With depleting forest covers, the impact is much worse because of soil erosion and landslides across the state.

The official death toll is touching 1000 with 14000 missing and 60,000 stranded. From having worked in several relief situations we feel that the work will go on for years in a disaster of such magnitude.

Because of inaccessible terrains and many of the vital bridges cut-off, the death toll is expected to rise.

This is AID's first response for immediate appeal for donations for rescue efforts and AID will be involved in long term rehabilitation of the region.

AID is currently partnering with it's long term partner Goonj in this relief efforts with volunteers in AID US constantly trying to find more partners on the ground to send support. Despite communication failures some of our partners have notified us about the ground situation and we will be constantly monitoring the situation.

We are also looking for more partners and any recommendations can be sent to [email protected]
